UK Health and Care Worker Visa 2024 (Documents and Requirements)

The UK Health and Care Worker visa allows health, nursing, medical, allied health or adult social workers to work in the UK. Health and care work is the most popular occupation in the UK. You must have a valid offer of employment from an approved UK employer. Approximately 63,400 companies and organizations (not just healthcare employers) are registered as licensed sponsors.

Who is eligible for a health visa?

To qualify for a medical and caregiver visa you must:

  • You must be a qualified doctor, nurse, healthcare professional or adult health professional.
  • Work in a suitable health or social occupation.
  • Work for a UK employer approved by the Home Office.
  • You will need a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer which contains information about the job you have been offered in the UK.
  • You will receive minimum wage – how much depends on the type of job you do.

Medical and Paramedic Visa Requirements.

To successfully obtain a medical and caregiver visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a valid license as a physician, nurse, health care provider, or adult social worker.
  • You hold or will hold a position that falls within a list of professional codes approved by the health or social care department.
  • you are employed or about to work for a UK healthcare employer approved by the Home Office.
  • You have received a valid “certificate of guarantee” from your employer.
  • You meet the English language requirements at CEFR level B1 (equivalent to IELTS 4.0).
  • You will receive minimum wage or “prevailing wage,” whichever is higher.
  • you have enough money to support yourself without having to rely on public funds, or your employer has ticked a box in the CoS to demonstrate your support.
  • If working with vulnerable groups, proof of criminal record must be provided; and
    You will need a valid TB certificate (if applicable).

Documents required for Healthcare Professional Visa

When you apply, you must provide:

  1. Reference number for your certificate of sponsorship – you will receive this information from your employer.
  2. Proof of your English language skills.
  3. A valid passport or other document proving your identity and nationality
  4. Your job title and annual salary
  5. Job code for your position
  6. Your employer’s name and sponsor’s license number – you can find this information on your sponsor’s certificate
  7. If you do not have a certificate of sponsorship, ask your employer for one.

Minimum wages for medical and caregiver visas

As part of the eligibility criteria for the Medical and Caregiver visa, you must meet minimum salary requirements. This means you must earn at least minimum wage or the prevailing wage for the position being offered, whichever is higher.

Typically, medical and carer visas require you to earn at least £26,200 per year or £10.75 per hour. If the current rate for your job is higher than either, you should get at least the current rate. For example, if your annual salary is £25,000 but the going rate for your job code is £26,800, you will not meet the salary requirement.

How much does it cost and Fees?

If you are applying for a medical and caregiver visa, you must have sufficient funds to:

  • Pay registration fee.
  • You’ll need to support yourself when you arrive in the UK – usually you’ll need at least £1,270 on hand (unless you’re exempt).

The standard application fee depends on whether you are in the UK for:

  • Up to 3 years – £247 per person.
  • 3+ years – £479 per person.

Your visa is valid for up to 5 years before you need to renew it. You can then apply for permanent residence in the UK.
